A Florida Disability Assistance Agency Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month
The Florida-based agency Spinal Cord Living-Assistance Development, Inc. (SCLAD) will be hosting a luncheon to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) on October 17, 2014. At the event, which will be held at the Rusty Pelican in Key Biscayne, SCLAD will award ten disabled workers for their contributions to the workforce.
Honoring Disabled Workers
NDEAM is a national initiative observed each October throughout the country. Its purpose is to raise awareness about disability employment issues and honor the American workers with disabilities who continue to make diverse contributions to society, as SCLAD describes it in a recent press release.
SCLAD is a nonprofit community organization that provides programs and resources to “facilitate independent living, economical self-sufficiency and full community integration for persons with disabilities.”
In celebration of this year’s NDEAM, SCLAD will host the luncheon to recognize outstanding workers with disabilities. Kathleen Martinez, the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Disability Employment Policy, will deliver the Keynote Address.
Corporations and citizens submitted nominations to SCLAD for review. Thirty-four workers were nominated, workers which SCLAD calls “extraordinary individuals.” The agency reviewed the nominations, and selected the top ten workers who exemplified outstanding contributions.
These hard-working disabled workers’ efforts will be recognized this Friday. It’s SCLAD’s hope that this celebration luncheon and their Vocational Services Program will “encourage individuals with disabilities to continue their quest for independence through employment, and to motivate employers to hire more persons with disabilities.”
