New Methods to Treat Chronic Pain

Posted on February 16, 2016 by Disability Help Group

Chronic pain that is related to a medical condition can completely debilitate an individual and make it impossible to continue working. Long-term disability benefits may be available during this time.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have just approved Cymbalta to treat chronic pain. Cymbalta has been approved to treat conditions such as chronic lower back pain, osteoarthritis and chronic musculoskeletal pain.

According to the FDA, up to 3/4ths of people in the United States will suffer from chronic pain at some point in their lives. Cymbalta provides sufferers with yet another option to help manage their pain.

Cymbalta has also been approved to treat:

  • diabetic peripheral neuropathy;
  • generalized anxiety disorder;
  • major depression; and
  • fibromyalgia.

This approval comes after clinical trials involving more than 29,000 patients. The results indicated that patients who took Cymbalta experienced a significant decline in chronic pain.

Some of the serious side effects, which are believed to affect less than 1% of patients, include:

  • allergic reactions;
  • liver damage;
  • pneumonia;
  • suicidal thoughts/suicide; and
  • depression.

The ability to manage pain can make a significant difference in a person’s quality of life. Regardless, for many individuals, the need for long-term disability benefits persists.
