SSA Expedites Claims for 100 Percent Permanently and Totally Disabled Veterans

Posted on February 17, 2016 by Disability Help Group

If you have received a 100 percent permanent and total (P&T) disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), you may be eligible for expedited Social Security disability claim processing through a new initiative from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Veterans’ disability benefits are awarded to any eligible veteran who suffered a service-connected disability. The 100 percent P&T disability rating is for veterans who suffered a permanent and total disability. In addition to VA disability benefits, disabled veterans may also apply for Social Security disability benefits.

Beginning March 17, 2014 any disabled veteran who applies for SSDI or SSI benefits will have their claim expedited and processed as high priority if they mention they are 100 percent P&T rated by the VA during their application and provide a copy of their rating letter verifying their permanent and total disability rating.

The expedited claim process will help disabled veterans obtain a decision on whether or not they qualify for SSDI or SSI benefits from the SSA. However, the initiative does not guarantee a veteran will qualify for Social Security disability benefits. He or she must still meet the requirements for proof of disability, duration of condition, and work history or income limits.

At Disability Help Group our representatives are dedicated to both Social Security and veterans’ disability benefit cases, ensuring that our veterans obtain the full range of benefits they deserve. If you are a disabled veteran you may be entitled to both types of disability benefits, so it’s important to work with a company that knows both systems and can assist with both types of claims.
