Thank You, Servicemembers! – May is National Military Appreciation Month

Posted on February 18, 2016 by Disability Help Group

May is a special month designated by Congress to focus our nation’s attention to the programs and especially the personnel that help keep our country free. There are many patriotic observances during this month including:

  • Loyalty Day (May 1);
  • VE Day (May 8);
  • Military Spouse Day (May 11);
  • Armed Forces Day (May 19); and
  • Memorial Day (May 30).

Of course, the entire month is dedicated to honoring all servicemembers of all military branches, as well as their families who provide love and support to those protecting our nation. This means there are over 90 million Americans to honor this month!

Many states issue official proclamations about National Military Appreciation Month and there are several cities and towns that hold special local picnics and parades throughout May. Many businesses and restaurants run special offers and promotions during the month of May to soldiers, veterans, and their families.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) strives year-round to honor our veterans by providing them with ongoing support and resources after their military careers. One of the main ways the VA supports veterans is through the disability benefits program, which helps veterans disabled by combat-related injuries and illnesses find health care and resources they need and deserve.

If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability representative from Disability Help Group is ready to help.
