Women Veterans Continue To Fight After War

Though women veterans often engage in combat as much as their male counterparts many come home to a public that does not understand their struggles.  Beyond their crucial role while deployed women are much more likely to be sexually assaulted while serving their country.  Though their rates of PTSD are high many try to hide their symptoms for fear they will be dismissed as “whiney.”

This is why Genevieve Chase of Alexandria, Va., gathered a few of her peers and had a simple brunch.  Now their organization, American Women Veterans, has well over 2000 members.  Female veterans are able to get together to talk, vent and most of all fight for their rights as women of the armed services.  Their motto is to, “Enlighten.  Engage. Empower.”  They have worked hard to do just that and will continue to do so as the need for peer support grows among women service members.
